Welcome to Indoor Cooling Ltd

Family Run Since 1994
Indoor Cooling Ltd began life in 1994 as one of the UK's original mobile air conditioning hire companies. Since then our portfolio has expanded to encompass fully installed air conditioning too and we are privileged to have worked with some of the UK's best known companies over the last 17 years. Today the company is still run by the same family and we welcome visitors to our showroom in Consett where we have numerous types of portable and fixed air conditioners on display. Customers are welcome to come along and get some free advice  and push a few buttons at the same time!

If you really want to take the most simple route to getting the right advice just call us on 01207 506111 and we will happily talk you through the differences between the air conditioning units and have you pointed in the right direction in no time.

Mobile Air Conditioners. Size is Important.
Mobile air conditioners (portable air conditioners) are the quickest route to wonderful cool air in the hot summers days. Simply unpack the unit from the box, plug it in and away you go. Portables do have limits however and need to be sized correctly for the room you wish to cool. For instance a small portable air conditioner in a large hot room will work its little socks off all day long and may never actually achieve your goal of reducing the room temperature to a comfortable level for you to relax in. If you want to know how powerful a portable air conditioner is just check the specification to see how many BTU's of cold air it provides.  The more BTU's the more powerful the air conditioner, therefore the quicker it will cool your room. What are BTU's? this stands for British Thermal Units and is simply a measurement of heat or cold. Most UK portable air conditioning units are either 9000, 10000 or 12000 BTU's. There are a few units which claim to be as powerful as 15000Btu's but in truth when tested most of these tend to be closer to 12000Btu. Remember you can always call us 01207 506111 if you are not sure, we are here to help.

How do I Know how much cooling I need for my room?
In general you can calculate how much cooling power ( BTU's ) you need to cool your room by taking the size of the room in cubic feet and multiplying that by 5. For instance, if your room is 15ft x 20ft x 8ft high you would do the following calculation: 15 x 20 x 8 = 2400 cubic feet. Then you simply multiply that 2400 x 5 which equals 12000. You now know that you require a minimum of 12000Btu's to cool your room. So you would search for a portable air conditioner with at least that much cooling power. Beware direct sunlight, computer equipment, lighting and people all contribute to heat inside any room. Therefore it is always best to go for as many BTU's as you can get your hands on to be sure your chosen unit has the best chance of cooling the room on those really hot days.

Wall Mounted Air Conditioners ( Wall Splits )
Wall mounted split air conditioners are a more effective and quiet way of cooling a room than mobile air conditioners. They are called wall mounted splits simply because they are wall mounted and are split into two pieces, an indoor unit and a corresponding outdoor unit. These days good wall mounted units are very easy to install and can be up and running in no time without the need for expensive professional installers. The wall mounted unit simply hangs on the wall in the room you want to cool, then the small diameter hose goes from there through a small hole in the wall where it joins up with the outdoor unit ( the compressor ). Then all you have to do is plug the indoor unit in to a normal 13amp socket, pick up the remote and there you have it, fully installed air conditioning ( and heating ) at the touch of a button and at a fraction of a professionally installed system.

Inverter Wall Mounted Air Conditioners
Standard wall mounted split air conditioners are either on or off with no in between. They sense the temperature in the room and then switch themselves on at full speed just long enough to cool the room down to your chosen temperature at which point they go into stand by and wait until they are needed again. An Inverter wall mounted air conditioner takes a more relaxed approach. An inverter reaches your chosen room temperature and then quietly and efficiently reduces the fan speed to a trickle and 'ticks over' adding just the right amount of air to keep the room at an even temperature. This method uses far less electricity than standard air conditioning and is much more efficient. We have a full range of easyfit inverter air conditioners to choose from. Installation is exactly the same as described for the standard easyfit wall mounted air conditioners above.

Ceiling Mounted Air Conditioners ( Cassettes )
Ceiling mounted air conditioners are usually called 'cassettes'. These are mounted into the ceiling and like the splits above, are connected to a corresponding outdoor unit via a flexible pipe which carries the refrigerant back and forth between them. These air conditioners tend to be '4 way blow' which means they blow cold air in 4 directions at once. Ceiling units tend to be square and like all the other units here, come in varying power options ( BTU's).

Inverter Ceiling Mounted Air Conditioners
These are the same as the standard units above, but have inverters inside which means they will do the job more efficiently whilst using less power. Remember, an Inverter unit will 'tick over' all day keeping the room at a stable temperature as opposed to standard air conditioning which cools the room then switches of all together, then waits for the room to heat up before coming on at full speed again.

Low Wall Air Conditioners ( Dwarf Walls, Conservatories )
Low Wall air conditioners are usually 'split' units with an indoor and an outdoor unit. The crucial difference here though is that the indoor unit is much smaller to enable it to fit perfectly onto dwarf walls making it perfect for a conservatory or anywhere with a low wall. Again, the indoor unit connects to the outdoor unit with the usual pipework. The outdoor unit removes the heat from the room and dissipates it outside along with any condensation that has been collected in the system. The indoor unit provides the cooling and heating as required.
